Child Support
When a relationship ends and children are involved, child support becomes an issue. The purpose of child support is to ensure that both parents have the financial ability to meet their children’s needs.
Minnesota uses a child support calculator which takes into account the gross monthly incomes of both parents. The parents’ incomes are compared, along with allocation of parenting time and the parents’ contributions towards child care and health care expenses.
Child support may occasionally be reviewed for cost of living adjustments. In certain circumstances, child support may be modified if either parent’s financial circumstances have changed substantially.
